The Member of Parliament for Zabzugu Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Umar, has disbursed GH¢300,000 to support 300 needy tertiary students in the constituency under his education support initiative.
Each beneficiary received financial assistance to help meet educational expenses, as the MP renewed his commitment to promoting access to tertiary education among constituents.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Alhassan urged parents and students to take advantage of the initiative, stressing that the programme was open to all constituents who needed support.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, remain focused and make good use of the opportunity provided to them.
The MP challenged the students to dream beyond their present circumstances and aspire to excel in their respective fields, expressing the hope that Zabzugu would produce outstanding computer scientists, astronomers, engineers and agriculturalists.
He underscored the importance of education to the development of the constituency, stating that industrialisation in Zabzugu would remain a challenge without a well-educated and skilled workforce.
Mr. Alhassan, also highlighted the potential of agriculture, which remains a major livelihood in the area, and called for the training of professionals capable of introducing modern technology, innovation and improved farming practices to transform the sector.
He further urged students pursuing nursing and teaching to explore opportunities beyond traditional employment by establishing businesses and institutions that could create jobs for others.
According to the MP, trained nurses could consider establishing health centres and other healthcare initiatives, while teachers could explore the establishment of quality educational institutions.
Sponsorship for Medical and Law Students
Hon. Alhassan announced that any student from the Zabzugu Constituency who gains admission to study Medicine or Law would receive full educational sponsorship from him.
He urged students to work hard and take advantage of educational opportunities to achieve their professional ambitions.
The MP also advised the beneficiaries to desist from illicit drug use and other activities that could negatively affect their education, health and future. He encouraged them to develop relevant skills, remain disciplined and surround themselves with positive influences.
Hon. MP noted that, given Ghana’s population of approximately 34 million, the government could not employ everyone. He therefore encouraged students and graduates to explore opportunities in their respective fields, create employment and contribute to the development of their communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to return to Zabzugu after completing their education and use their knowledge, skills and expertise to support the constituency’s development.
“Dream big, study seriously, stay away from drugs, and come back to serve and develop Zabzugu,” he told the students.
