Two Fulani men were shot dead at Nangon village near Karaga on Tuesday in the Karaga District of the Northern Region, police said. The two according to the police were killed at about 5:50 a.m.
Northern regional police spokesman DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko who confirmed the killing to the media said the police got to the scene after they received information about the killing and found the bodies of two male adults of Fulani extraction from two separate houses.
The dead were identified as Alhaji Abdul Salam Hammer, a 51 years-old old herdsman and Abdulai Iddrisu, a 43-years old Arabic teacher were both lying in lateral position in pool of blood with bullet wounds on their bodies.
DSP Tanko said police interaction with community members revealed that the killers of the two men forcefully broke into the rooms of their victims and shot them. The victims were rushed to the Karaga hospital where they were confirmed dead.
Police retrieved 12 empty AK ammunition shells and 1 live ammunition from the scene. Investigations have since commenced to identify and arrest the perpetrators, DSP Tanko added.
He appealed to persons who have any information that can assist police in the investigations to contact authorities and urged residents in and around the Karaga area to remain calm and not to take the law into their hands.
