The Tamale metropolitan directorate of Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) is targeting about 150 women groups in Tamale metro and its environs to be engaged in the cultivation of cowpea production.
The targeted women are expected to form nuclear groups for the pilot project which would be engaging about 300 women in the northern region in an effort to enhance their socio-economic development.
MOFA in collaboration with Northern Rural Growth Program (NRGP) is also putting in place measures to engage rural women in the cultivation of soya beans, moringa and mossisamen production in the region.
The Tamale metropolitan director of MOFA, Yakubu Stephen who disclosed this to Zaa News said MOFA has put in place measures to ensure that there is ready market for farmers' produce.
The metro director further disclosed that, MOFA and the Italian government are mapping strategies to help women in the area of milk processing and vegetable production in the Tamale metropolis and its surrounding communities.
The Italian government according to him will be focusing on yogurt and how to turn cow milk into powder form to prevent it from being wasted during the raining season (peak season).
