TEPCON holds Mureau-Murrat memorial public lecture in Tamale

The Knights and Ladies of Marshall in collaboration with the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Conference (TEPCON) under the auspices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale have organized this year’s Mureau-Murrat memorial public lecture in Tamale.
 
The lecture forms part of the celebration to mark forty years since the introduction of the knights of Marshall in the northern region.
 
The lecture was on the theme “Good Governance, Democracy, Justice and Peace in Northern Ghana in the context of the 2012 elections”.
 
In attendance were political partys’ representatives, Civil Society Organizations, Muslim clergy, security services and the general public.
 
In his welcome address, Brother Malex Alebikiya, Grand Knight, Council 27 said good governance, justice and peace are alloyed and inseparable values and are the expectations of the ordinary man and woman.
 
The coordinator, peace-building in Africa, Catholic Relief Services, Hippolyt Pul who delivered the first lecture on good governance, justice and peace said good governance is the foundation on which justice and peace are built.
Mr Pul said good governance can only be achieved through transparency and accountability from both law makers and the ordinary citizen.
 
He added that the onus lay on everybody to work towards peace and justice for a better Northern Ghana.
 
The Metropolitan Catholic Arch-Bishop of Tamale, Most Reverend Philip Naameh who delivered the second lecture on democracy, good governance, peace and development, the role of the catholic church said the catholic church is always known to promote peace and development and called on all and sundry to put aside their ethnic differences and be each others’ keeper.
 
He said politicians will come and go but brotherly love will always be with us.
 
He urged all members of the catholic faith and the general public to desist from any act of violence.
Reverend Naameh also called on politicians to desist from acts that will instigate violence in the region and the country at large.
